Welcome To Kentucky Derby News.com
The Kentucky Derby, also known as the “Run for the Roses” is a one and a quarter mile Grade 1 race for three-year-old thoroughbred horses which is held every year on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs, and the stories behind the horses leading up to the race help make the race “the most exciting two minutes in sports”.
The big race is fast approaching, and you’ll need the analysis of our expert handicappers in order to make sense of all of the various pieces of news in order to successfully analyze and appreciate the race. We will help you make sense of each of the major prep races that have been run, who are the contenders and who will fizzle out and be exposed as having distance limitations.
Each year there seems to be the horses that the news media in general hypes up as one of the horses to beat who actually is more hype than hope. And then there are the dark horses, who seem to have a latent potential in them just waiting to burst forth. Sometimes this latent talent is hard to identify but at Kentucky Derby News, we will provide several under the radar horses that are not getting much attention that could just pull it off come May 1st.
If we consult the Kentucky Derby Future Wager odds as a guideline, the prospects currently most fancied by the racing public are Eskendereya, who won the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth by crushing the competition by 8 ½ lengths while earning a 106 Beyer Speed Figure, and Lookin at Lucky, who has won six of his seven starts, including the Grade 1 Cash Call Futurity and most recently, the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes.
We like a number of horses that aren’t getting much attention either in the racing press or in the Future Wager, such as Caracortado, Interactif, Sidney’s Candy, and Odysseus, so be sure to check out our featured profiles on these and other under the radar horses.
Get the latest news and opinion pieces that can’t be found on any of the major racing sites, and written by successful handicappers that love analyzing the horses. Who is in and who is off the trail? Are the reports of a tendon problem really as bad as the media reports, or is it being overblown. Is the Derby prospect you have your eye in the capable hands of an experienced horseman or is he being trained by a horseman that is in over his head.
